Professor I. K. Dontwi is the Acting Executive Director of the National Institute for Mathematical Sciences (NIMS), Ghana. He was the Director of the Institute of Distance Learning (IDL), KNUST from 2008 to 2018. Before his tenure as the director of IDL in 2008, he had served in various academic and professional capacities within KNUST. At varying points in his academic career, he has served as Dean of Physical Sciences, Head of the Mathematics Department, and Vice Dean of the Faculty of Physical Sciences. He has also served as the internal and external examiner/assessor for numerous Master of Science (MSc) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) students from various departments in KNUST. 

As an accomplished Mathematician and Scientist, Professor Dontwi has made numerous contributions to the University, and the nation at large, over his thirty years of experience in the academic field. He has served on the boards of numerous councils and associations, including; the KNUST Council, the Africa Biomathematics Society, the Energy Research Group (Ghana), the International Federation of Nonlinear Analysts - Ghana, the International Biometrics Society - Mathematics Association of America, the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics - America, the Mathematics Association of Ghana, the African Forum for Mathematical Ecologists, the Ghana Science Association, the West African Science Association, and several others. He has also authored and co-authored numerous scientific research papers and book chapters which have been published in national and international scientific and mathematics journals.
